Excellent hosting services
Reviewer: David, 23 December 2009
The people at rimu are the best I've dealt with at multiple hosting services, and a lot of times they don't even charge for the work they do (if it's simple stuff). I've been using them for years now, and cannot imagine why anyone would give a low rating for them. They are very knowledgeable, responsive, and helpful.

The Worse Support
Reviewer: Anon, 27 January 2009
Their support team is completely fragmented and completely non-responsive. The cost is to high for the incredible low space and memory given, they have no true expertise.....

Best Rails Stack, Amazing Support
Reviewer: Mark, 04 April 2008
Let's see....

A Rails stack that's UP TO DATE on Day 1? CHECK.

All the gems I actually wanted? CHECK.

Tech support guys that are WEIRDLY HELPFUL? CHECK.

Proactive? HECK yes.

Automated DNS tools and remote server reboots even without ssh access? CHECK.

Slick, cartoon-style web 2.0 marketing materials and hype? NOPE.

Hostile "please don't be stupid or waste our time" message to deter you from using the "Submit a Support Ticket" page? NOPE.

Seriously, I don't know what I did to deserve this kind of good treatment but I'm glad I found Rimuhosting when I did. I'm never going back to the Others.

So Glad I Chose RimuHosting
Reviewer: Larry Hannay, 04 March 2008
I'm a Windows guy (yeah, I know: boo! hiss!) who didn't know squat about deploying a Rails application on a Linux box.

Their support was un-youknowwhat-believable. They answered all of my questions (and there were a lot) with blazing speed - usually within 30 minutes, no matter the time of day.

In addition, they were *always* nice and encouraging - a nice touch when one feels like a moron. ;-)

Great servers, unbelievable support
Reviewer: Peter De Berdt, 19 July 2007
Rimuhosting's servers are top-notch, no question about it. Our server had an uptime of more than 200 days without a single glitch.

Coming from a shared hosting provider (that had excellent reviews btw) this was a real relief, if only we had done it sooner. Shared hosting always has its quirks because of the number of accounts that are active on one server.

I could go on and on about how good Rimuhosting's support is, but you have to use their services to really find out. One day, our Apache was going haywire on our dedicated server and I just didn't find the problem (nothing had changed). Support helped me track down the cause: a rootkit infection. Instead of leaving it at that and telling me to backup the server and then pay for reinstalling the system, they provided me with excellent advise on how to spread the risk and put some safeguards in place just in case it does happen again.

We don't care if their price is a bit higher than the dozens of other hosts out there. I believe it is a fair price and the stress Rimuhosting has saved me from is worth a lot more than the few extra quid they are asking.

These guys know their stuff, whether it's RoR, Java, ... I recommend them to all my friends and customers and they are so happy with Rimuhosting they are doing the same thing.

Their excellent service has affirmed my choice
Reviewer: Mario T. Lanza, 06 May 2007
I'm relatively new to Linux and Rails, coming from a classic ASP background. (I know: that's almost a throwback to the stone age!) I spent a full day looking for the right host. After trying a shared host with miserable results, I eventually sought the help of a long-time Rails developer. He made progress but, my Rails app never did see the light of day. Eventually, I took up that host on their 30-day money-back guarantee.

The helpful Rails developer recommended I consider going with a VPS. I found a number available and narrowed my options. Even though I had spotted competitor packages having modestly better spec sheets I eventually selected RimuHosting mainly because having good support was paramount (I'm still learning this stuff) and I had been hearing great things about their support. Also, I wanted a host where Rails was integral and not merely "tacked on."

Well, I managed to get the site up within a couple hours with a little guidance from their support team. But my scenario was a little more involved. I wanted to host *multiple* Rails apps each on their own mongrel cluster. While setting up the mongrel clusters wasn't too difficult, getting Apache configured to load balance for a primary and a secondary app was a bear (I had no experience with it).

I'll tell you what: I had lots of questions for these guys. They addressed my many queries promptly, provided guidance, actually fixed the issues in my configuration, and provided me with the details surrounding the necessary adjustments. I feel they really went well beyond typical customer service. Based on my experience, I'd happily recommend them. They're knowledgeable and far more helpful than I would have expected.

Great Service and above average pricing.
Reviewer: Scott, 24 March 2007
When I searched for hosting, I wish there was a site like this. I researched the old fashion way. I asked around and asked different rails bloggers. We wanted a VPS, and rimuhosting came well recommended. The service is great, and they've been very helpful during our deployment especially since we are primarily windows guys learning Linux Admin. The thing that prevents them from being a 10, is I have now seen other web hosting companies offer more Bandwidth, Storage, and Memory for your money. It's time for them to adjust their offerings.

We have used Rimuhosting a number of times and will continue to. They have great prices and the support they have is unbelievable. Within 5 minutes of putting in a ticket for more ram, HD, etc.. it will be done. We also like them because they have so many distro options. It also seems like they don't try to cram on as many VPSs on there servers as possible and we have never had an issue with CPU resources being low.

Everything I Hoped For
Reviewer: cwd, 25 January 2007
I took a medium-sized PHP app and three Rails apps from a shared hosting environment to this VPS and had the entire thing working in 2 days.

I'm not a Linux sysadmin, but the help RimuHosting provided was first-rate and allowed me to get up and running very fast. I should mention that I had to make this move over New Years, so the promptness and accuracy of their responses was most appreciated.

I wish I had a bit more memory and disk space for the $$$ but otherwise, it's great.
